Cheap and Cheerful Challenge: "Save More, Give More, Live More"

I just started following The Frugal Find. Her blog header reads "Save More, Give More, Live More." I love this concept! My challenge for the month of May is to give away some of my net savings to a worthy cause, instead of stuffing it back in my own wallet. Since I've added more coupons to my grocery shopping trips, I've added about $14 per week to my savings at Safeway. At the end of May, I will donate at least $40 to a worthy cause. Maybe this is something you would consider this month?

Cheap and Cheerful wants to know: How do you budget in your charitable giving? And, please tell me where you think I should send my donation. All ideas are appreciated.

  1. My vote is to donate toward any of the special angels at Reece's Rainbow that still need a home :)

I always make my charitable contributions around the holidays and use some of the money I might have spent on some toys or other material things that would be forgotten the next day and apply it towards a cause I believe in!

  2. We give monthly to several causes that are near and dear to us. Locally, I like Shriner's Hospital because they will not turn anyone away and do some fabulous work.

We also make charitable gifts at the end of the year instead of gifts to my parents. We write them a letter explaining the charities we chose and the reasons we each picked those charities. It is a nice way to get the kids involved in seeing how giving is just as important (if not more) than receiving.
